Berry Berry Kix family: Kristina Hohl, Morgan Siebert, Jeremy Martzloff, Emily Cheek, Dillon Rayhill, Emily McCullen ... with a special appearance by Stephen Hohl and Kloie Hohl
We deceided to spend half of our money on building a well for underdeveloped countries and the other half on the laundry mat.
Dillon and Emily M found a lady that was just starting 2 loads of laundry. They were able to pray and talk to her for quite some time. She told them all about her life and how thankful she was that they paid completely for her laundry.
Jeremy and Kloie found a lady that did not want their money but she did want them to pray for her dear friend Oscar. At the end of the prayer with tears in her eyes she gave each of them a hug and told them how special this was that they prayed with her.
Morgan and Emily C found a lady that was folding her laundry in the back portion of the room. When they approached her Morgan had asked if they could help fold the laundry and pray with her. The woman promplty grabbed her own teenage children (currently playing video games) and asked them why they weren't out helping people the way that these girls were. Morgan and Emily explained all about 621 and how much fun it is while learning life lessons as all of them were folding the clothes. At the end of their conversation Morgan and Emily reimbursed the family for half of their money that they had spent on their laundry for the day. The woman was openly crying and praising God saying that this would be the money that they would use for food that night.
It happened more than once that as people were approached by our students they declined the offer of monetary help but accepted the prayers! There were even people that paid us!! So in one laundry mat we prayed with every person in there and walked out with an additional $15. The woman that worked behind the counter saw what the students were doing and after they asked if they could pray with her she gave them an additional $5 and told them to continue to bless people and that what they were doing at such a young age was so profound and had lasting impacts on so many lives. When we came back the next day, they were all saying "here come the radom acts of kindness!!"
My favorite story happend toward the end of the first day. The girls were praying and everyone was so receptive it was amazing. Morgan brought with her 3 friends from Chelsea. One is a believer and one is not (the other was a little brother along for the ride). Mary did not know what to expect. She never experienced anything with God or giving for no apparent reason. After a day filled with wonderful giving and unselfish behavior Mary told us that she felt a chill run through her every time that Morgan was praying. She said that it felt so awesome and that she has never felt anything like this before. The girls took Mary aside and said a private prayer asking Jesus to come into Mary's heart. They wanted to continue with their own money long after the $30 ran out, they wanted to go into hair salon's, 7 eleven, the car wash, it didn't matter. They were on fire for the Lord and did not want the day to end.
At one point throughout the day I was pulled outside of the laundry mat by an older gentleman. His face was stern as he clutched the book that he had been reading while waiting for his items to dry. Once outside, he asked me if I was with the girls that were walking around inside and I told him "yes" that I was. He gave me a big smile and said that he was a pastor at a church in Farmington and that he was at the laundry mat trying to surprise his wife by washing the big blankets that won't fit in their washer at home.
He did not want me to tell the girls any thing about him, he wanted to see if they would come up to him on their own. He had been watching and listening to all of their prayers throughout the store.
They made it over to him as their last stop. He allowed them to pray and thanked them for everything that they were doing offering each one special words of individual encouragement. The girls were beaming, just radiant with God's love flowing from them. I glanced down at the book that the pastor had laid on the table while holding hands for prayer. The title was "Changing our Communities Through Jesus Christ"
